Post-Completion OPT

Post-completion is the Optional Practical Training an F-1 student may apply for after completing their program of study. This is the most common type of OPT used by F-1 students. OPT applications are adjudicated by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS).

To participate in post-completion OPT, you must:

• Request an OPT I-20 from the International Center
• Submit the complete OPT Application/I-765 to USCIS
• Receive Approval of OPT Application/I-765 and Employment Authorization Document (EAD Card)
