Most F-1 students do not possess an Alien Registration Number (A-Number) or Travel Document Number
If you do not currently possess a Social Security Number, you have the option to request a Social Security number and card as part of your I-765 filing. You are not required to request an SSN using this application; it is your choice if you want to do so.
If filing by paper:
Do not forget to sign the I-765 in the Applicant’s Signature box.
Type or legibly print your I-765 answers in black ink. We recommend typing your answers wherever possible, and then adding your signature using a black pen.
Once you have completed and signed your I-765, make a duplicate copy of the I-765 for your own records. This signed copy may be very useful if there are unexpected errors made by USCIS in the processing of your application.
