Article Information
There are a number of tools that PubMed provides on the Abstract page that can be useful in your research. You can find them on the right side of the page, under Page Navigation, including Similar Articles, Cited by, Publication types, and MeSH terms.
From the search results, select the article titled Canadian consensus practice guidelines for bisphosphonate associated osteonecrosis of the jaw Links to an external site..
"Similar articles" provides a list of articles that are close to the article that you're looking at. This can be helpful in looking for more MeSH terms or in quickly finding a few related articles for a short presentation.
"Cited by" is a list of articles that are in PubMed Central (PMC) and have cited the article that you've chosen. This is a way to look into the future, as an article reference list looks into the past.
Filters work in databases because each article has been indexed with information that describe the article, such as publication date and article type. Another way to refine your search strategy is to look at the indexing information of relevant articles for inspiration for your search strategy.
"Publication type" lets you see what kind of an article you're looking at, in this case, a Practice Guideline. "MeSH terms" appear immediately below.
Most articles are only listed in PubMed, so you need to use MGet It to access the full text of an article. MGet It links are available on pages for individual citations and when the Display option for your search results page is set to Abstract not Summary. The video on the following page will describe how to use MGet It.
