Deleting a Group

Are you finished with a group and would like to delete it? Only the owner of a group can delete it, which by default is the person who created the group. If that's you, log into your account at zotero.org, Links to an external site. then sign in with your Zotero account. Click the 'Groups' tab. Once you find the group you want to delete from your list of groups, click the link 'Manage Profile' directly under the name of that group.

On the page that opens, you'll see a red button on the right-hand side of the page that says 'Delete Group.' Click that.

Once the group is deleted, you and all other members will get a notification in your Zotero program giving them the option to retain the sources saved in the group.

Transferring Ownership of a Group

Alternatively, you could transfer ownership of the group to another member. To do so, follow the same instructions as above ('Groups' tab > 'Manage Profile'), except instead of selecting 'Delete Group,' scroll down to the 'Transfer Ownership' section of the page. (This option will only appear if you already have at least one other member who has accepted an initiation to the group.) Select the member you choose as the new owner from the dropdown box.

The person you've selected as the new owner will receive a message inviting them to accept group ownership. That message also includes a warning that if accepted, any file storage will now be the responsibility of the new owner.
