Creating a Zotero Group

Share resources with your collaborators via Zotero groups! Zotero allows you to:

  • Create an unlimited number of groups
  • Invite an unlimited number of collaborators to each group

Create a group by starting at zotero.org Links to an external site., and signing in with your Zotero username and password.

Click on the tab 'Groups' at the top of the page.

Select 'Create a new group.'

Choose a name for your group, and select your group type.

You'll probably want to create a 'Private Membership' group, but you could also create a publicly visible group if you prefer.

Click 'Create Group' when you're ready.

Now, open your Zotero program.

Your new group should appear on the left-hand menu, under the new heading 'Group Libraries.'

If it doesn't appear right away, force a sync with your Zotero online account by clicking the green circular arrow at the top right-hand side of the program. The group should appear immediately after that.

Drag and drop any articles from your existing Zotero library into that new group.

You can also save items directly to the group via the Zotero web browser connector. Just make sure that you've clicked on the name of the group in the left-hand menu of your Zotero program so the contents (if any) are displaying in the center column before saving the new item via the connector.
