So, you've read a reference list, and decided that that article referenced sounds useful for your research! How do you find the full text of the journal article?

Is there a DOI?
- Follow the DOI link.
- This is the fastest and easiest way to directly get to the full text of the article.

Is there no DOI? Or does the DOI take you to a page that asks for money for the article?
- Go to the U-M Library website, and paste the title of the article into the Library Search bar , then click "Search."
  - Do NOT paste the entire reference into the search bar. This can confuse the search engine.
  - If you're on the website of a specific U-M library (like the Taubman Health Sciences Library, for example), the search box on that page will not bring back articles. Click on the big yellow "M" at the top left of the page first. This will direct you to the main U-M Library homepage, where you can enter the title into the search box there.

- Skim through the articles column in your search results. You should see the article listed there near the top of the results. The title of the article, title of the journal, year of publication, and the first author should be listed there, so check that carefully to make sure it is the correct article that you're looking for. Click on "Go to Item" to access the full text.

If neither of these options worked, what should you do?
- You can send a message to the Ask a Librarian chat service, available in the bottom-right corner of any library web page, and they will help you access the article.
