Nick is in charge of the printmaking, painting, and drawing studios. Talk to him about whether you would like to discuss oil painting mediums or if you keep getting salty flats in your litho. He is also available for personal lectures on the finer points of litho chemistry.

Ken is an established craftsman and artisan with over 20 years of experience in the woodshop. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from Taubman College and is a Michigan Licensed Residential Builder. He’s our expert in various wood, metal, and plastic technologies, as well as modelmaking and furniture construction. Students who care about craftsmanship and polished, professional work would do well to speak with Ken.

Kit is a Stamps alum (BFA 2015), and an artist, educator, and community organizer. They have a strong and varied skillset in fibers-related tools and techniques, photography, and studio maintenance, and they manage their own studio, constructing and selling wearables.

Catherine is a 2D artist with varying skills in traditional art, digital art, and animation. She assists with most 2D classes, and runs office hours for Photoshop, Illustrator and Cricut support. Outside of Stamps, she teaches concept art classes at Washtenaw Community College, and does a large range of 2D freelance work. Talk to Catherine if you are interested in traditional hand drawn animation, character design, or storyboarding.

Matthew’s background is in video, animation, photography, and design. He joined the Stamps studio team in 2013 as the video and digital media coordinator. Matthew has now moved into the role of lead studio coordinator, while also continuing to support the VisCom and Digital Work Commons areas of the school. Matthew can help with questions on time-based media, printing, the Risograph, or anything you might want to discuss with the studio staff.

Hayden is an experienced studio coordinator and an interdisciplinary sculptor, who has a broad range of 3D skills and experiences, including woodworking, metalsmithing, glass casting, and weaving. Hayden holds an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from the College for Creative Studies

 

Mike Vitale Links to an external site. (he/him), Digital Fabrication, Jewelry and Metalsmithing Coordinator/ 3D Media Supervisor

As Materials Fabrication Studio Coordinator, Mike Vitale manages the Digital Fabrication Studio and the Metalsmithing/Jewelry Design studio spaces, ensuring proper usage and maintaining equipment and supplies. The Digital Fabrication area consists of 3 spaces (Laser cutter room, CNC room, and workspace which includes vinyl cutters and 3D printers).  The Metals area consists of a classroom and a work room (soldering, casting, forming, etching, cutting, etc).

Vitale has exhibited his work across the nation and continues to be an active artist in digital fabrication and  metalsmithing fields.

Vitale joined the A&D staff in 2007, and enjoys contributing his knowledge and imparting his excitement for the fields to A&D students.

Kelly is a sculpture and installation artist with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches. She has experience with a variety of materials and processes such as; metal fabrication, wood working, large-scale sculpture, moldmaking, casting, and clay modeling.  Talk to Kelly if you need any guidance, feedback, and/or encouragement on your BIG ideas.

 

Joel Rakowski, ECHO & Time-Based Media Studio Coordinator

Joel is excited to help with time-based media and lens based art. You can usually find me in ECHO, Photo/Video Studio 2006, or right across from the animation lab 2114. Please get in touch if you need help with cameras, projectors, Premiere Pro, audio projects, or help with planning.
