Welcome to the Department of Psychology's Service Learning Transportation Orientation.
This course is required for students enrolled in Psych 211, 306, and 325 who choose to use a UM vehicle for transport to and from site. Many of the Service Learning Sites are not accessible by walking or using an AATA bus or MBus, so vehicles are reserved for students enrolled in Psych 211, 306, or 325 to get to those sites.
You may choose to use your own vehicle but it is important for you to know that since the UM provides transportation as necessary, you will not be reimbursed for mileage or fuel.
Being an approved driver requires approval by UM Transportation Services and the Department of Psychology. All of the following must be complete before you are considered an approved driver.
First, complete the Eligibility & Registration Module.
Second, you must submit a Motor Vehicle Report request Links to an external site.. This is covered in detail in the Motor Vehicle Report Module. The time to approve an MVR Request varies, and may take longer if your driver's license is from a state other than Michigan. Please submit your request promptly.
Third, you will complete the following Modules:
- Using a UM Vehicle, where you'll learn about the Policies & Procedures for using a UM vehicle.
- Reserving a Vehicle & Completing the Vehicle Report Form where you'll learn the process of requesting a vehicle, and how we track vehicle use. You do need a smart phone for this application. If you don't have a smart phone and no one in your group has one, please email psych.rideshare@umich.edu.
- Course Quiz, to check your understanding.
- The final step is the Transportation Orientation Video & Quiz. This must be completed prior to the first time you use a vehicle.
