Finding Datasets for Analysis

Finding datasets for re-use and analysis can be time-consuming and complicated.

The datasets that underlie research findings are increasingly in demand. Funding agencies require that research data be discoverable, accessible and preserved for future use. Publishers ask for data sets to be included alongside of publications as supplemental files to support research findings. Researchers seek out existing data sets to test out new theories or generate new discoveries.

We will explore how to find datasets at these five repositories:

  • Web of Science — Data Citation Index
  • ICPSR — Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research, located at U-M
  • Google Dataset Search
  • Sage Research Methods
  • U-M Library Deep Blue Data — Multi-disciplinary data repository for researchers at the University of Michigan
