Avoiding Plagiarism
Now that you are aware of different types of plagiarism, let's learn about avoiding plagiarism. Plagiarism can be avoided by following the guidelines below:
- Develop a research plan weeks before the paper is due
- Take careful notes
- Place quotation marks around words that you copy directly from any source (book, article, website, etc.)
- When you make a note, always write the page number, author, and title of the source
- Keep a running bibliography of all sources you use or may potentially use
- When in doubt, cite!
- Paraphrase effectively
