Narrowing Search

The first strategy you can use is adding another keyword or replacing a keyword with an alternative from your list. Let's practice this by adding the third keyword students in the third search box. Notice how your results dropped to around 14 which means every source should be about cell phones, addiction, and students.

Now let's change the keyword "cell phone" to "mobile phone." Notice that the number of results increases to around 60. This is a good example of how different results can be even though the keywords "cell phone" and "mobile phone" are synonymous.

The second strategy to narrowing your results is using the refine results feature on the lefthand side. You can refine your results by peer-review, source type, publication date, subject, methodology, population, and more. Let's practice by changing the publication date  from 2005-2017 to 2015-2017 in order to see results from the last two years.

All library databases will allow you to refine, narrow, or filter your results. Using both strategies together is a great way to effectively find relevant articles.
