These guides include what databases are recommended for the subject, highly recommended journals, books, and more.

Databases Links to an external site.

The library subscribes to hundreds of databases. They are essentially very expensive library search engines focused on a specific subject or range of subjects, and provide access to subscription content not available for free online. The engineering databases Links to an external site. of most interest to engineering students are Scopus Links to an external site., Web of Science Links to an external site., and Engineering Village Links to an external site.. Databases are only accessible when using the links on the library homepage, so the database knows you're coming from the University of Michigan.

Databases for Code

Two places for finding code:

- Code Ocean: Links to an external site. A cloud-based computational reproducibility platform that provides researchers and developers an easy way to share, discover, and run code published in academic journals and conferences.
- IEEE Xplore Digital Library: Links to an external site. After running a search for whatever you're looking for, use the filters on the left side of the screen to limit to Supplemental Items > Code.

Did you know you have a librarian for your subject area? In Engineering we have a librarian for each of the departments in the College of Engineering. We even have librarians for things like Data Visualization or finding grants.

On the library website, lib.umich.edu Links to an external site., click on Research and Scholarship, then Find a Specialist.

Browse the list or search for your subject major to find your librarian. If you are not sure what your major will be, search for a subject you are interested in.

Librarians can help you with things like finding scholarly articles, help with citations and citation management, literature reviews, finding industry standards, and your capstone project research.
