Standard Development Organizations

Standard Development Organizations (SDOs) write and develop standards. SDOs charge technical committees with investigating the need and building a consensus for, developing, and publishing standards. For example, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), as the name implies, develops standards for medical instrumentation and procedures. The SDO's name is often found within a standard’s number.
