STEP 1: Recording and Embedding Video in Canvas (Photo ID check)

This test quiz serves two purposes:

1. To ensure that you can record yourself with your device and embed the video in the text field of your answer in preparation of the speaking exam (Step 3).
2. To verify your identity with a photo ID.

Before taking the speaking part of the placement test, you need to familiarize yourself with how to record and embed video in Canvas. You can use this practice quiz multiple times to test your device and recording settings. The instructions below will still be available after you start the quiz.

Instructions

• To be heard, we STRONGLY recommend you use a webcam and headset/earbuds with a microphone when recording. 
• In your quiz text field, click the three-dot button to expand the menu, then choose MiVideo (looking like a 'play' button):
     
  
  In MiVideo, Click the dark blue “Add New” button (upper-right), then choose the “Express Capture” option from the dropdown menu:
  
  

(You may need to click an “Allow Canvas to access your webcam” button here, if prompted to allow access, click “Accept” or “Allow”.)

• In the Express Capture window, click the red circle in the middle of your webcam display to start recording.
• When you are finished, click the white square next to the timer. 
• You now have the opportunity to review your video. If you are happy with it, click the button (lower-right).
• Then, once your upload progress bar is complete, shown below, click the button (upper-right).
  
  
  
  
• After you are taken back to the text input box, you will see your videos being processed. Once you see the videos properly embedded after a short while, as shown below, submit your videos by clicking the “Submit Quiz” button.
