Welcome to the
U-M German Gateway Vocabulary Test.
The test consists of 100 multiple choice questions, randomly drawn from a question bank of 538 questions. The 538 questions represent the 538 most common German words, which you can study by downloading this document Download this document. You may take this test (best browser = Firefox as of Sept. 2016) for practice here as many times as you wish. You will be shown a score each time you take it, but the score will not be recorded and will not have any effect on your grade in any U-M German course. This Canvas site is open to the public, but user activity is not. Only the person taking the test can see his/her score.
How to get the most out of this practice test:
- Important: you will not receive any feedback about correct and incorrect answers until the very end of the test.
- As you take the test, write words on a piece of paper that you are unsure about so that you can see how you did with them and so you can study these for future testing.
- Another option would be to have the Gateway vocabulary list next to you or on your desktop and/or an online dictionary Links to an external site. open so you can search for words while testing. This may cause you to be unable to finish all 100 questions in the 30 minutes allotted, but it will help you get a feel for the time parameter of the test for when you take the graded version.
