Sleigh Beds is a romantic classic, designed originally to use as a bed for a girl or boy, to sleep on in old England. Originally Sleigh Beds was simple round or oval shaped beds, with either two legs up against each other or one long leg and a rounded headboard. Nowadays they can be bought with a wide variety of different designs & finishes, both classic and hand made sleigh beds, to fit in with any traditional or modern home.
A sleigh bed's mattress is made from a variety of materials, including, but not limited to, leather, cloth, metal, wood, plastic, ceramic or any combination of these materials. They may also come with a wooden box spring. You can choose from a wide range of mattress types, including memory foam, solid rubber and even fiber filled. And you can choose between having a box spring or none at all in your lovely new sleigh beds & mattresses. If you've always wanted to have a wooden box spring in your bedroom, you really don't need to look further than your local bedding store.
Sleigh beds usually don't have a footboard. However, if you do buy a bed that does have a footboard, there are many different options for adding extra storage space, like drawers underneath the bed. With today's sleigh beds, you can have built in storage space, or you can purchase an add-on, such as an additional 2 drawer bookcase. This way you get more storage space without making your bed look too 'full'.
Some of the sleigh beds that are available today have no footboard at all! In these cases you'll need to look at whether you want a metal or wooden base. Wooden bases generally look more traditional and give off a more cozy feeling, while metal bases are more contemporary and reflect a more modern decor. And both wooden and metal sleigh beds will have a very traditional look - nothing too fancy, just elegant and classic. Of course, metal and wood frames make great contemporary designs as well, so it really depends on what you're looking for!
The majority of sleigh beds are available either in single or twin sizes. You can easily find a size that will suit you perfectly regardless of whether you want a daybed, or a bed for a couple. Sleigh bed mattresses vary considerably, although not all of them come in the traditional type of twin size. Of course, there are many different kinds of sleigh beds out there, including ones shaped like a sleigh, bunk beds, loveseats and even cots, so it's best to take a look around to see what is available.
When buying your sleigh beds, take a good look at the footboard, because this is where you'll be keeping your legs. Sleigh bed footboards generally come in wood or metal, with the choice being usually made for a wooden or metal footboard. Generally speaking, the metal footboard is more 'durable' than the wooden one (which can look very dated) and it's also usually less expensive. Of course, the wooden footboard is also a much more classic design and should match any bedroom with great style.
