Clarification of the Eligibility Requirements (2)

2. I have an internship offer and the activities (work) that I will perform are directly related to and integral to an established curriculum in my major field of study.

Internship offer:

CPT approval is internship or training specific. The IC cannot approve your CPT authorization without evaluating the proposed internship activities that you are expected to engage in. There must be a clear and compelling link between your major field of study and the proposed detailed training description in order to qualify for CPT. Your academic advisor must also have this information in order to recommend you for approval.

Integral to an established curriculum.

An integral internship is one that is either:

  • required for all students in your major field of study to complete in order to graduate, or
  • an optional training for which you will receive academic credit that counts towards your degree program.

Ph.D. students who have advanced to candidacy must show that their training opportunity is integral or necessary to the completion of their dissertation since they have completed all required coursework.
