Reflecting on the Internship Experience


Doctoral internships are designed to give students hands-on professional experiences as they consider career paths in different industries. The following activity offers a space for you to reflect on the internship experience, and its impact on you, your professional growth, and your career interests.

  1. In what way(s) did your internship meet your expectations?
  2. In what way(s) did your internship not meet your expectations?
  3. What are you most proud of that you accomplished at your site?
  4. Which of your skills did you find to be your strongest?
  5. In which skill area did you feel most challenged? 
  6. What did you learn (about your skills, the career field, etc) that surprised you? Why is that important (for your career development, your scholarship, your professional relationships, etc)?
  7. What is the most valuable piece of information you learned while networking?
  8. How did the internship experience affect your career aspirations?
