Module 2: Cover Letter 1
Cover Letter Writing
Cover letters are a requirement of most applications that allow you to explain to an employer how your skills and experience align with an open position. Employers use them, alongside your resume, to assess how you can help the organization solve challenges and advance their mission, work, or projects.
Here are a few resources that demonstrate presentational and formatting expectations as well as samples, and templates to support cover letter writing.
- U-M UCC, Cover Letter Resources Links to an external site.: a comprhensive site that reviews cover letter components, tips, templates, and samples.
- Resume and Cover Letter Tips for Graduate Students Links to an external site.: a document that discusses cover letter structure, and provides samples, sample commentary, and a reflection tool.
The Rackham Doctoral Intern Fellowship Program (RDIFP), in partnership with the UCC, also hosts resume and cover letter workshops in the Fall and Winter semesters. These workshops are intended for graduate students applying to the RDIFP but are open to all graduate students applying to positions outside of tenure-track roles. |
