Exporting Your Annotations to Microsoft Word or Google Docs

Zotero allows for a quick export of your annotations to either a Word document or a Google document.

To begin, first make sure that there is a right-hand column column displayed. If you don't see a right-hand column, click on the right-hand icon that looks like a rectangle and says 'Toggle Context Pane' if you hover over it..

At the far right-hand side of the screen, click on the square yellow icon that says 'Notes' if you hover over it.

On this right-hand column, click the plus symbol beside 'Item Notes.' Select the option 'Add Item Note from Annotations.'

The right hand menu will now display your annotations with in-text citations and page numbers. You will be able to change the citation style later if you want.

Next, go to Microsoft Word or Google Docs; the instructions are the same for both. On the Zotero tab, select the option 'Insert Note.'

You'll note that all highlighted text has been enclosed in parentheses and an in-text citation (or footnote, dependent on your selected citation style) has been added.

Any selected image or diagram will be included as an image file, which may need to be resized to fit your document.

All in-text citations are Zotero citations, so they can be easily integrated into a Zotero bibliography.
