CRLT Orientation (August 11 - 27, 2021)

Hello Stamps Grads:

Note to incoming grads:

  • All new Stamps graduate students are required to participate in the CRLT GSI Teaching Orientation prior to their arrival at Stamps. These orientations help to support your participation as graduate assistants. All incoming Stamps students holding assistantships (GSI, GSSA, GSRA) and RMAs are expected to participate.

Note to returning grads:

  • We should be ready for employment contracting in the next two weeks (or so).
  • GSI/GSIRs are required to participate in the CRLT Orientation.
  • All other returning grads are welcome to participate but not required to do so.
  • You are included on this calendar notice so that you are aware of the CRLT Orientation dates.

Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) will again offer Fall 2021 GSI Teaching Orientation (GSITO) as an online asynchronous CANVAS course. The course will be available to GSIs starting Wednesday, August 11, 2021, and it will be open through Friday, August 27, 2021. In addition to these asynchronous modules, GSIs this year will have the opportunity to participate in an online, synchronous practice teaching session.

This online Fall GSITO will contain the following components traditionally offered as part of the in-person program:

  • Inclusive teaching for all participants
  • Modules on a variety of teaching topics (GSIs can select modules that best meet their needs)
  • Key policy information (grading, plagiarism, academic integrity, and FERPA; religious-academic conflicts; and instructor-student relationships)
  • (New this year!) Opportunities for online synchronous practice teaching
  • GEO resources
