We begin our specific exploration into under-represented race/ethnicity groups in Africa. The cornerstone of ALL African diaspora groups -- is the mother continent of Africa, its core values, history, and rites or rituals... which in turn, gave birth to much of what we now value, practice or revere today. In addition, however, these core values of extended community life, and a far less concentrated emphasis on imperialism, materialism, and militant values, left the continent exposed and vulnerable to European colonization and slavery, etc. The basis for all of what we are now called on to "heal" or balance.

Read the attached document, view the videos, and take notes as you go. We will then transfer this to African American (or African United States) cultures in the following week and more specifically, address our place in the racial hierarchy, and how we might negotiate a voice in deprogramming racism, finding a balance to privilege/disprivilege, and more generally: becoming change-agents throughout our careers of equity, justice, and inclusion.
