Climate Change

Anthropogenic (human driven) climate change causes a variety of global issues, some of which we are already experiencing locally in Southeastern Michigan.

Rising sea levels
Increased numbers of climate refugees
Increases in extreme weather events
Shifts in plant and animal habitat ranges
Health risks, such as worsening air quality, increases in heat-related illnesses, and the spread of vector-borne diseases.

Environmental Justice

Low-income and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities are disproportionately affected by climate change and other environmental problems. These communities often spend a larger portion of their income on energy bills and have reduced access to healthy foods, clean air, and safe drinking water.
