Course Communication Policy

Please carefully review our course communication policy below:

M-ARC participants are expected to:

  • First and foremost: Participate actively and make meaningful contributions to the group. The more you engage the more likely it is that you have a rich, meaningful experience in seminar. Teaching is a collaborative profession, and seminar is an ideal space to practice collaboration!
  • Corps members are expected to conduct themselves professionally at M-ARC events and to communicate respectfully in phone, email, and in-person exchanges with the program staff and instructors.
  • Support and encourage an open and safe environment for discussion by:
    • Demonstrating respect for everyone.
    • Conducting yourself in a respectful manner in discussion forum(s) within your online classroom and any email communication.
    • Respecting the opinions of others, even when there are varying viewpoints.
  • Be aware that personal anecdotes and classroom/student anecdotes are often shared in the seminar setting, please treat this information as confidential.
  • Share your experience with an open mindset and be open to others’ experiences.
  • Contact your seminar facilitator at least 24 hours prior to the assignment’s due date regarding any issues or questions regarding the assignment.
  • Contact your seminar facilitator no later than 24 hours prior to the assignment’s due date if there are any circumstances related to those described in the Syllabus that will not allow you to complete and submit an assignment by its assigned due date.
  • Reply to email communication(s) from your seminar facilitator within 24-48 hours.
  • Use email or Canvas email to contact your seminar facilitator.
  • Before asking a question related to the class, check your resources first (syllabus, policy guide, etc.). These resources are created so that you can have information readily available to you.
  • Complete assigned tasks such as forms, surveys, or other items requested by program staff in a timely manner (within 24-48 hours).

    Electronic Communications:

    It is each corps member’s responsibility to stay informed about the program by reading communications from program staff and instructors. Regular programmatic updates are communicated via weekly email announcements and text notifications. Emergent messages are sent via email and/or text message from instructors and/or program staff. Corps members are advised to clear the relevant email addresses from spam filters and to bookmark and frequently check the program webpage (m-arc.soe.umich.edu Links to an external site.). In addition, corps members should ensure that the M-ARC program office has their most current contact information and notify M-ARCProgram@umich.edu of any changes as they occur.

M-ARC Seminar Facilitators are expected to:

  • Respond to an email sent to them within 24-48 hours.
  • Score your work and return appropriate feedback for assignments within one week following the assignment’s due date. If there will be a delay in returning feedback and grades, the seminar facilitator will email participants to notify them.
  • Address you and communicate with you professionally and respectfully within the discussion forum(s) in your online classroom, on campus meetings, phone conversations, and email communications.
  • Notify you within 24 hours of the assignment’s due date if there are any changes or modifications to the assignment and/or its deadline.
