Session 7 Program Outcome Objectives
Session 6: Use disciplinary literacy to teach content
The focus of session 7 is M-ARC program Outcome 4: Use disciplinary literacy to teach content
Outcome 4 Description: In all academic subjects, teachers who achieve Program Outcome 4 encourage students to become disciplinary thinkers by engaging students in the interpretation and production of a diverse array of discipline-specific content and/or texts. These teachers create an environment in which students regularly engage in the appropriate use of disciplinary language.
Outcome 4 includes 3 competencies, which are:
4A. Effective Reading Interpretive Strategies
4B. Academic Language
4C. Disciplinary Resources
For complete descriptions of each competency view M-ARC's program rubric.
By the end of three week learning cycle session, M-ARC participants will be able to:

The objective will be assessed via completion of a module reflective assignment and participating in both in-person and online activities.
Year 2 Cohort Objective: By the end of this online module and participation in the whole group session teachers will show developing evidence that they have an understanding the practices associated with using disciplinary literacy to teach content. The objective will be assessed via completion of a module reflective assignment and participating in both in-person and online activities.

The observed practices are employed somewhat effectively; however more skillful, deliberate execution is needed to successfully demonstrate the target outcome. |
There is evidence that the teacher routinely and skillfully incorporates the practices associated with this outcome into his/her instruction and/or records of practice. |
