Module 3 Exploratory 2 (Optional!)

M-ARC Program Outcome 1: Plan and Prepare for Effective Instruction

*This exploratory is optional this week, see previous page for alternative pre-work to complete"

Module 3 Learning Goals

  • Consider multiple facets of planning when preparing for a lesson
  • Apply discussion protocol strategy to specific content/grade level material
  • Collaborate with colleagues about planning by sharing ideas and feedback

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What factors do you consider when planning a lesson? Beyond the lesson objectives and the activities themselves, some factors to plan for include:

  • giving instructions
  • managing transitions
  • physical layout
  • assessing student understanding
  • addressing misconceptions
  • student groupings
  • materials needed
  • timing

In our whole group session, we dove into planning for the specific task of planning for a class discussion. At all levels and in all content areas, students are forming concepts and solidifying ideas. Engaging in a class discussion is one way to reveal and develop student thinking.
