Receipt Notice (Form I-797C)
Immediately after filing your I-765 online with USCIS the Form I-797C Receipt Notice will be available in your USCIS online account. Once you have the receipt notice, please review it carefully to be sure all of the information on it (such as the spelling of your name and address) is correct. USCIS sometimes makes errors in data entry. If any mistakes are visible on your receipt notice, be sure to contact USCIS immediately to request a correction to your application data. The receipt notice will contain a “Receipt Date” which is the official date that USCIS considers your application to be filed. Your unique application receipt number will also be located on the top left of the notice.
Approximately 3-4 weeks after they receive your OPT application, USCIS will also mail a paper Receipt Notice to you to the U.S. mailing address that you list on the I-765 form. It is very important that you receive the paper Receipt Notice. The delivery of your Receipt Notice can give you a measure of confidence that if your OPT is approved, you can reasonably expect to also receive your EAD card, as long as the U.S. Mailing Address remains valid throughout the lifespan of your OPT application review.
