Reserve a 3D Printer

We are excited that you are ready to 3D Print in the Design Lab Workshop. Our resources are open and available to you and we don't charge for most printing at the Design Lab. In lieu of payment we ask for a short blog post about the project which you can complete within two weeks of finishing your print. (You can see some examples over at Lab Notes Links to an external site., our blog). This helps us grow our community and can showcase the cool things people are doing at the Lab. We also offer consultations for getting started with 3D modeling which you can request in the google form below. 

PLA is our standard print material and we have several colors available. If you are interested in a specific color or the possibility of a different material please note that in the google form below. 

To 3D print in the Design Lab Workshop:

1. Complete our google form Links to an external site. with the information pertaining to your print project. A staff member will reach out to within one to two business days to help you schedule a time to print. Most reservations only require a two hour timeslot as we allow for prints to run to completion once they are started. We do ask that prints do not exceed 24 hours to accommodate all users. 

2. When you come in for your scheduled reservation, make sure you have the file that contains your 3D model ready to go in some kind of cloud storage location that you can access from our machine here.

3. After your print is complete, email a captioned photograph along with your blog post (text and images) documenting your finished print project to shapirodesignlab@umich.edu.
