Reserve the Laser Cutter

We are excited that you are ready to laser cut and/or engrave in the workshop. Our resources are open and available to you and we don't charge for most projects completed in the Design Lab. In lieu of payment we ask for a short blog post about the project which you can complete within two weeks of finishing your print. (You can see some examples over at Lab Notes Links to an external site., our blog). This helps us grow our community and can showcase the cool things people are doing at the Lab. We also offer consultations for getting started with 3D modeling which you can request in the google form below. 

PLA is our standard print material and we have several colors available. If you are interested in a specific color or the possibility of a different material please note that in the google form below. 

To Laser Cut in the Design Lab Workshop:

1. Complete our google form Links to an external site. with the information pertaining to your project. A staff member will reach out to within one to two business days to help you schedule a reservation. Most reservations only require a two hour time slot. We do ask that prints  

2. When you come in for your scheduled reservation, make sure you have your file in a cloud storage location or a removable drive.

3. After your laser cut and/or engraving is complete, email a captioned photograph along with your blog post (text and images) documenting your finished project to shapirodesignlab@umich.edu.
