Summary: Long-term goal is to incorporate new technologies in enhancing care in the acute care setting by testing and validating them in clinically relevant situations.

Examples of possible use of AVMR technology in acute care:

  • Using MR for enhancing mannequins for training for procedures such as chest tube placement, endotracheal intubation, real-time medical assistance
  • Enhancing diagnostic skills using MR in simulation rooms
  • Enhancing diagnostic skills by setting: Group setting (multiple students being taught by same instructor i.e. classroom setting); and one-on-one setting, which is akin to what happens in the units, inpatient, outpatient and ED setting using real life case scenarios. This will help us build a library of real time cases
  • Use of multiple AR devices (i.e. HoloLens) by team members simultaneously to study how team decision-making and resource utilization can be enhanced for optimal quality of care.
