02: Framings and Foundations
Overview
This class has been designed for the information to build and layer on each other as we progress. Today we'll go over material that will serve as foundation for everything else we will learn this semester. We'll discuss the social construction of illness, racism, cultural humility, and a framing of epistemic privilege. All of these concepts will help us frame our thinking of how policy is developed and embodied.
If you're interested in building a larger bibliography, pay attention to the sources of these and all of the articles we read.

Discussion
What questions or topics arose in class that we did not get to cover? How does structural competency, cultural competency, and cultural humility interact with institutional racism? How do you think these readings help guide the rest of the course? Feel free to add other resources here you think are important to today's class session.
